Longarm Quilting

RATES:

My price for longarming includes consultation, quilting labor & thread. Batting is charged separately (see below).

Price per square inch

As of January 1, 2024: I charge 2.75 cents (or rarely 3 cents per square inch) based on the density of the stitching and the complexity of the design.

Example: Your quilt top is 60 inches x 80 inches. 60 x 80 = 4800 x .0275 = $132.

My rates INCLUDE design advice and consultation, a new needle and thread, and photos of your beautiful quilt.

Minimum charge

My minimum quilting charge is $50. This means that a small quilt or table runner's square inch price will be rounded up to the $50 minimum.

I can also quilt multiple smaller items on one backing (think two baby quilts, or pillow tops, table runners, etc.)

Batting

Batting Options

**Price reflects recent price increase from Quilters Dream.
You may purchase batting from me. I carry the following batting types:

  • Quilters Dream Bamboo Blend Batting ($0.46/in)

  • !NEW! Quilters Dream Deluxe 100% Cotton Batting ($0.58/in)

  • Quilters Dream Select 100% Cotton Batting ($0.40/in)

  • Quilters Dream 80/20 Cotton/Polyester Batting ($0.38/in)

  • Most of the batting I stock is on a 93" roll. I will use only what is needed for your quilt (smallest side + a 5" margin) and charge per inch.

  • For example, if you have a 60" x 80" quilt, I would cut 65" inches of the batting of your choice.

    • 65" of Bamboo Blend @ $0.46/in = $29.90

    • 65" of Cotton Deluxe @ $0.58/in = $37.70

    • 65" of Cotton Select @ $0.40/in = $26.00

    • 65" of 80/20 cotton/poly blend @ $0.38/in = $24.70

I will order other fiber varieties of Quilters Dream batting like Wool or their Green option (made with recycled plastic) for you if given enough lead time.

Batting is a separate charge and is NOT included in the square inch price.

Thread

Spools of Glide quilting thread

I stock strong, high quality Glide & Premo-Soft thread from Fil-Tec.

  • Thread is included in your square inch price; there is no additional fee.

My personal style attempts to match or blend thread color with the lighter areas of your quilt. Unless you make a special request, I will match the thread to the lightest background color in the quilt top. This is YOUR quilt! Let me know if you have a preference on thread color.

Backing thread will be selected to match or closely align with the top thread choice.

Other Services

Quilt Binding

I also offer binding services. I love binding quilts, but it’s very time intensive, so this is subject to my schedule at the time. Please indicate on your form if you’re interested having me create or add binding to your quilt.

This service can include:

  • I can create your binding with your supplied fabric and machine sew to front: 20¢/linear inch

  • I can machine sew your premade binding to the front of your quilt: 15¢/linear inch

  • I don’t currently offer finished hand binding.

To figure cost of binding add all 4 lengths of your quilt, then multiply by .15/.20
(Ex. 60+60+80+80=280 -> 280 x .15=$42.00)

Piecing of Backing

I can piece your backing for $12/seam. This does not include pattern matching. Please indicate on your booking form if you would like me to piece your backing for you.

Trimming Service

Without trimming service, the quilt is returned to you with the extra batting and backing fabric still attached. This is my preference, as it keeps the stitches along the edge of your quilt safe until you are ready to bind.

With trimming service, I will square the corners (as accurately as possible without compromising the design of your quilt) and trim off the excess batting and backing fabric so that the quilt is ready for binding. The charge for this is 5¢/linear inch, which generally it works out to about $10 for baby/lap quilts, $15 for medium/queen, $20 for king size.

Photos

With your permission, I will photograph your project and post it online and on social media.

I will pass those images on to you and you may use them as you wish.

Please credit A Piece of Quiet Quilts when posting them publicly.

Shipping

Shipping your top and backing to me: I live in North Carolina, USA, and would be happy to receive your top and backing by mail. I'd recommend sending your materials enclosed in some kind of sack or bag to protect against possible moisture in transit and then placed in a hard-sided cardboard box. Make sure the box is securely taped and labeled clearly.

Return shipping: I will send your quilt back to you in the manner described above via USPS Priority mail (using flat rate when possible/economical). Priority mail comes with $50 of insurance and a tracking number, but please indicate on your intake form if you would like me to buy any additional insurance on your behalf. It's a great idea to insure your valuables against loss or damage while with the Postal Service, but I don't require it.

Payment

After the quilting is complete, you will receive your invoice via email. As soon as I receive payment, I will send your quilt to you and email you the tracking number.
